Yesterday was a busy day for us. It was the husband's birthday, but he had rehearsal all day so the typical Saturday festivities had to be carried out single-parent style. We made a trip to visit the husband and give him a small birthday treat (Yum Cherry Coke and Unreal Reese's) and I explained to the boys that we were going to a birthday party later that day for a little boy named Aiden.
"What's his middle name?" Isaac wanted to know.
"I don't know, but you can ask him when you see him! Do you remember your middle name?"
"Yeah! Everett. It's a cool name. I like my name!"
I thought the conversation was cute, but quickly forgot about it in the bustle of our day.
Fast forward 7 hours...
We arrived at the birthday party and there was a swarm of little kids around a fire truck. Kimberly, Aiden's mom, was sitting on the ground, watching the children as they buzzed with excitement. Isaac started talking to Kimberly's mom. Kimberly turned her head and listened.
"My name is Isaac! My middle name is Everett! Everett is a big name!"
Kimberly smiled and my minds eye flew to our refrigerator, where a birth announcement is on display for Everett Minick, the baby boy whose spirit was too big for this world. I knew in that moment that Everett was letting his Mommy and Grandma know that he was there for the party.
Thank you God for giving us children that are so innocent, Angels are able to speak through them.
