I can't believe Jared is 18 months old. He's my baby! How can he be so old? Larry has been telling me things like, "We need to get him to drink from a cup now, you know." And I say things like, "Why? He's so little!" The fact is he's growing, and faster than I'd like to admit. As I read over Isaac's 18 month post I couldn't help but be amazed at some of the things Jared has been doing, that Isaac didn't start until 18 months. Like climbing, for example. Jared is crazy about climbing! Isaac didn't get that bad until 18 months. However, Isaac started tantrums at a year and Jared has just started them. He scrunches up his face and yells really loud. It's so out of his character that we usually just freeze and say, "What in the world? What are you doing?" But it looks like time out will be something he will need to experience soon. He LOVES the iPhone, but doesn't really understand how to play with it. So you can open an app for him and he just closes it and yells at you, like it's your fault that the phone isn't doing what it should.
We took him to his 18 month check-up. All that climbing definitely has him tall and lean, just like Isaac has always been. The doctor is still concerned about his language. He's not saying the 10 words he should be at this age, but Larry and I are not that worried. We took him to be evaluated at 15 months and everything was off the charts, except for speech. It was barely in the gray area, so the doctor told us she wasn't concerned and that she would check back at 18 months. She said as long as he was mimicking us by then, he was doing fine. He does mimic us and he has some words, but he also like to hum a lot at you. It's almost like he's talking, but he isn't opening his mouth. I worked with him this morning and got him to say 2 more new words, so I'm just going to work with him a lot this summer and see where we are. His listening is excellent and you can tell him to get things from a different room and bring them to you and he can. He's also really into books now (which is such a relief!). He wasn't that interested as a baby, but now he loves them! He also loves to play tag and chase :) He does not, however, like being separated. He has started having separation anxiety pretty bad now. As soon as we walk into the double doors at church he starts wailing. He calms down after being in the class for awhile (they tell me he loves the cookies :) but it's still heartbreaking. I'll be glad with this phase is over!
Oh, and my absolute favorite part of him right now is his dancing! He shakes his shoulders and upper body only while staring at you. He's so serious about his dancing and it cracks us up! He loves Wheels on the Bus and any songs with motions. He will try to do the motions with you. So cute! I'm trying to get him on camera :) He usually stops because he wants to play with the phone, but I won't give up!
We have been enjoying BOTH boys so much lately and I'm so proud of them!
